If you need to escape the city, disconnect and unwind, Killalea is a great solution. It’s a surfing reserve and State Park, complete with two beaches, amazing views, leisurely walks and a lovely little camp site that caters for campers and has lodges for those that want a bit of luxury.

It can get popular during the peak season so it’s always worth booking ahead. There’s plenty of hot showers, cooking space and outdoor BBQs. For the hotter months there is a big sheltered communal area in the middle of the park.

The best part of our stay was rising early with the Ravens (there were so many), brewing a coffee and heading out of the camp site to Mystics beach for a morning stroll. Some days we were the first people to put foot prints on the sand.

Post surfing The Farm

Depending on swell directions Mystics can have an uncrowded wave, with a kilometre or so of sand to help spread the crowds out. If the swell is more southerly, check out The Farm a few kilometres to the North for fun lefts and rights.
